The Transforming Cancer Services in South East Wales Programme is being run by Velindre NHS Trust. The Trust provides tertiary cancer services for South East Wales. That means we give cancer treatments which aren’t provided by your GP or local hospital. In practice these treatments are chemotherapy and radiotherapy. We also offer specialist cancer treatment to patients from all over Wales. Our oncologists and staff are amongst the most experienced and knowledgeable in the UK.
They work at Velindre Cancer Centre in Whitchurch, Cardiff, and at outreach clinics throughout South East Wales, providing treatment and care to the 1.5m population.
We expect cancer cases to increase throughout the UK. Our current building is just not big enough or good enough.
Our plan is to build a new cancer centre in Cardiff, and work with the NHS throughout South East Wales to ensure we deliver care and treatment closer to our patients, wherever possible.
